How it all started...
The story of The West Church in many ways begins in John chapter 4 where Jesus travels to Samaria, a place where very few wanted to go and while there he engaged in a conversation with a woman very few would've wanted to speak to. The grace of Jesus towards this woman whose background included five ex-husbands was so great that her response was not only to worship Jesus but to return home and tell everyone from her community about what he had done for her. She was disarmed by the gospel and her heart flooded by the living water of his mercy. As a result of her going public with her faith, the people in her community trusted in Jesus, believing he was indeed the Savior of the world.
Though the part of Alief that the Lord has called us to is not a place many want to visit due to the sex trafficking, lack of resources, mentors, and heroes, we desire to see John 4 become a reality. Our prayer is that the gospel of Jesus would be proclaimed, leading to transformed lives and a transformed community. And that the church is viewed as the primary source of transformation for the community to the praise and glory of God.

Expanding the vision...
After over six months of monthly zoom prayer gatherings due to COVID-19, our first in-person gathering, a vision brunch, was held at Leroy Crump Stadium in July of 2021. This was an opportunity to share the mission and vision of The West Church to those in the community as well as our strategy of making disciples of Jesus Christ. Our vision brunch was followed by a weekend retreat a month later where our team spent time hearing from the Lord, enjoying the fellowship of another, building and strengthening relationships, while having lots of fun.
